I have a love hate relationship with reading challenges. I tried one in 2019 with mixed results. You can read more about that here. I tend to feel super inspired by a reading challenge at the beginning of the year, but then quickly tire of them, feeling constrained by the prompts. Even the Goodreads Challenge where you just set a goal for the number books you want to read in a year felt daunting to me in 2020. Let’s face it, this year was a tough reading year for many of us. So, as we enter into 2021, I find myself with a renewed sense of vigor in my reading life. But, I’m also continuing to battle the Great Fatigue of 2020. My solution? Please continue reading…
Introducing —the first ever RPL Teen Reading Challenge! This is unlike any other reading challenge you’ve seen before. Instead of only focusing on books, you can read ANYTHING! Yep, that means books, magazine articles, newspaper articles, blog posts…well you get the point 😉 There are 12 prompts total, one for each month (although you don’t have to do them in order). We’ll create a channel on our teen Discord server where you can post ideas for the prompts, discuss what you’re reading, or just partake in general reading chit chat. If you are a teen and haven’t joined our Discord server yet, you can do that here. Also, once a month I’ll be posting on the blog with a bunch of ideas for each prompt. Finally, toward the end of the month, we’ll have a little virtual get-together where we chat face to face about how the reading challenge is going so far. Make sense?
