This year’s summer reading theme is “Reading Adventures: Explore Your World.” Read, complete your passport, win…and it’s all free!
The Summer Reading Program at Richmond Public Library is not only fun, but it’s also an important way to help your child maintain, and even increase, his or her literacy skills. Studies show that children who don’t read over the summer can actually develop what some call the “summer slide.” That is, a loss in literacy skills. But that doesn’t have to be case. Richmond Public Library always provides fun and exciting opportunities to read and learn all summer long!
Here’s how you can participate:
Register at your local branch beginning June 15 and pick up your Reading Adventures passport. Or download a copy online.
Start reading and attending programs and get your passport stamped. Every time you visit the library to check out books or attend a program you’ll receive a passport stamp. There’ll be a new stamp each week as you visit all the continents.
Collect all 8 stamps to get a grand prize ticket for the drawing at your neighborhood library. Once your passport is complete, bring it back to any RPL branch and receive a beach ball, window sticker, or key chain.
Each branch library will have a grand prize basket for the following age groups:
- Read to Me (Birth-Pre-K) Gift basket of books, a one-year family membership to the Children’s Museum, and more!
- Children (K-5th grade) G Force Karts tickets, books, and more!
- Teens (6th-12th grade) 2 Day Passes to Kings Dominion for 2019, books, and more!
- Adults Virginia Repertory Theater ticket vouchers, Byrd theater tickets, book sale coupon, and more!
