Orientation & Certification
- All users are required to take the 2 hour 3D printer orientation.
- Users under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult.
- All users must sign a waiver at the completion of the orientation which will be kept on file in the Innovation Lab.
- After completing the short in-person test, all users will receive a certificate of completion and will be recorded into the Innovation Lab logbook.
Preparing for Printing
- Users must submit a request form for using the 3D printer and agree to the Library’s 3D Printer Guidelines.
- Once the project is approved, users will be emailed with an estimated cost. The cost is .20 per gram. Richmond Public Library reserves the right to refuse a print.
- Once a cost is agreed upon, the appointment date and time will be confirmed via email.
Day of Printing
- Patrons must be present for the entire printing project. A Library staff member must also be present. The staff member’s only role is to monitor and trouble-shoot, not teach or print.
- Users under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult who has also be certified to use the Library’s 3D printer.
- Projects must be no longer than 3 hours and must conclude at least 30 minutes prior to closing. This includes time for preparation, trouble-shooting and cleanup. Overnight prints are not permitted.
- The patron is responsible to clean and shut down all equipment once the project is completed.
- Except in cases of mechanical failure, the object failing to fully print, errors in the printing process or other factors not in the control of the customer, users may not demand a new print due to dissatisfaction with color, scale, quality or design.
