Volunteers help us keep the Library going.

Volunteers manage the Friends of the Library semiannual book sales and work throughout the library system shelving, checking reports, teen advisory groups, and more.

School children 15 and up doing community service hours, “resume builders,” and others who want to help out are encouraged to complete the form below. We also work with college students seeking internships. If your volunteer service consists of court-directed community service hours, the Library is unable to provide assistance.

If seeking internship or volunteer experience with the library, register through the City’s Neighbor to Neighbor site here. Click the box for Libraries. Please also complete the following application.

  • We will sometimes photograph events and activities to promote library services. Do we have your permission to photograph or use your image in association with library services? (Saying no does not prevent you from volunteer service.)
  • An interview may be requested for any volunteer applicants. Volunteers must attend an orientation session before they begin service. Richmond Public Library does not offer court-mandated volunteer opportunities. Volunteer service is not a guarantee of future employment. By clicking "Submit" below I agree that I will not hold Richmond Public Library, its employees, directors, or funding agencies responsible for an injury while working as a volunteer.
