Are you mad for books in series? Me, too! I love books in series, but also have a compulsion that I. Must. Read. Series. In. Order. Sometimes this proves difficult. An author may write a book or two, and only then does it become a series – so searching a library catalog by the series name may not find the first couple of books. Publication date isn’t a sure thing – books come out in paperback or get reissued. If you look at the “other books by this author page” in the front of some books, they don’t always have the entire series listed, either.
Luckily, there are some places to find complete listings of your favorite series!
My favorite go-to for series is What’s Next from Kent District Library. Originally sold as a print publication and updated yearly, this is now a free-to-users database updated daily and maintained by the amazing KDL staff.
GoodReads is another good source for series. Search by author, and titles will come up in series order. You can also search GoodReads “lists” for series suggestions.
The Los Angeles Public Library maintains a free-to-users database called Series and Sequels.
If RPL is missing titles in your favorites series, you have some options besides purchasing the book yourself:
- City of Richmond residents are eligible for no-cost cards with Henrico County Public Library and Chesterfield County Public Library – perhaps they have the titles you want.
- Use RPL’s Suggest a Title for Purchase for new, popular, or still-in-print titles.
- See about borrowing the book from another library system using RPL’s Interlibrary Loan service.
