hoopla is a web and mobile library streaming service that RPL provides to our patrons completely free! Through it you can access eBooks, audiobooks, movies, magazines, comics, music, and even TV shows. The best part is that you never have to wait to borrow a title. Every borrow is instantaneous. This is sooooo nice when you’re just dying to watch something or you need that book for your book club that’s meeting…tomorrow.

In addition to the perk of instantaneous borrows, hoopla also offers something called a BingePass. These are passes to specially curated collections that allow you unlimited borrows/downloads for 7 days— perfect for when you want to binge a tv show or your child wants to read every book in the Click, Clack, Moo series in one sitting. hoopla has offered these passes in the past, but they just added a bunch more, specifically catering to our young readers. So, let me introduce you to them:[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

The Reading Corner

Bring story time to your home or take it on the go. Kids 10 months to 10 years old will love hearing stories read out loud and brought to life with illustrations and music. The Reading Corner’s collection includes over 500 videos in English and Dutch with more coming in Arabic, Moroccan, Spanish, and Turkish.

Learn About the World: People, Places, and Holidays

These carefully selected, kid-friendly titles are a great entry to understanding others through stories that bring us all together. Make a big world a little smaller with books about family, holidays, famous athletes, and other countries.

STEAM Powered Kids

Do you have a budding Jane Goodall, Alan Turing, or Michelangelo in the house? Fuel the passion for all things STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) with engaging books for kindergartners to preteens.

Cuentos para niños en español

Written primarily for kindergarteners to third graders, these books are a good entry point for young readers and those new to Spanish. Subjects like animals, holidays, energy, and more are familiar enough to aid understanding but challenging enough to keep readers engaged.

Growing Up: Social Emotional Learning for Kids

There’s more to growing up than reading, writing, and arithmetic. Give your kids an advantage with these stories about handling emotions, responsibility, and more.

Aside from these awesome new BingePasses, hoopla continues to offer these great, kid-friendly passes as well:

hellosaurus

Incredibly engaging, interactive, and educational, Hellosaurus puts kids ages 2 to 8 in their favorite shows. Featuring popular titles like The Wiggles and Love, Diana, children develop life skills independently and safely by having fun.

Kids’ Books in Action

As their favorite picture books come to life, kids will get excited about reading while watching the events of their favorite stories unfold. One borrow gives your little ones 7-day access to classic bedtime stories, nursery rhymes, and new favorites like Do Not Bring Your Dragon to the Library. There is so much variety that every child will find something they love.

KidzVidz

Kids will enjoy hours of fun and they’ll learn something in the process with the KidzVidz BingePass. This collection of movies and TV series covers animals, inspirational children in history, and the planet. Plus, we included a how-to-draw animals series to jumpstart their creativity! Don’t forget, one borrow gives you 7-day access to the entire collection.

Read-Along 2 Learn

This BingePass collection is perfect for curious kids. Read-Along eBooks allow young readers to explore independently or with narrator support and word highlighting. With topics like sports, animals, emotions, STEM, and more, kids can dig into the world around them at their own pace. And they can do all of this for 7 days using only one borrow.

The Highlights Collection

With content from the publishers of the award-winning magazine that generations of families grew up with, the Highlights Collection BingePass delights kids with its positive messages, puzzles, and “things-to-do.” With one borrow, enjoy 7 days of uninterrupted access to more than 200 multimedia series including the Timbertoes, Listen & Learn, Tex and Indi, and Ask Arizona.

I’m excited! How do I get started?

All you need to access hoopla is an RPL card. Simply visit the RPL hoopla site and login using your library card number. If you’ve never done this before, you’ll need to create an account the first time. Once logged in, you can view all available BingePasses by selecting BROWSE, then BingePass. Borrow the BingePass and you’re done! That content is immediately available to you, unlimited, for the next 7 days.

If you log off then return to hoopla, you can find your borrowed BingePass under MY HOOPLA, then Currently Borrowed.

If you’re a visual learner, check out this video from hoopla showing how to check out a BingePass (shown using an iPhone).

Eek! I don’t have an RPL card.

That’s ok! You can apply online for an e-card and gain access to hoopla and our other online resources without ever coming into the Library. You just have to be a resident of Richmond or one of our surrounding areas.

We hope you enjoy all this wonderful hoopla content!
