Today marks the start of Hispanic Heritage Month which runs September 15-October 15. While we feel that it is important to celebrate Hispanic people and their culture year round, this is still a great time to highlight one of our resources that can help you do just that.

Hispanic Life in America by NewsBank is an online database with comprehensive coverage of the Hispanic American experience from the early 18th century to the present day, as portrayed by the media. It cultivates more than 17,000 publications, including 700 Spanish-language newspapers and periodicals and is updated daily. Combining deep historical content with current sources, Hispanic Life in America is an invaluable resource for anyone interested in examining the full spectrum of American history and culture.

We love this resource for so many reasons! It is easily searchable by using keywords or utilizing one of over 700 suggested searches organized by historical eras, themes, topical areas and events. Direct links will take you right to the information you are looking for. Users can also search by date or map to get even more relevant content. Here’s a short video on how to use this amazing database.

Visit Hispanic Life in America and give it a try with one of our favorite searches:  “California Missions,” “Mexican War of Independence,” “Diego Rivera,” “West Side Story,” “The Cuban Missile Crisis,” and “Sonia Sotomayor.” Or, use keywords of your own to find a whole wealth of news articles and videos.

Happy Hispanic Heritage Month!
