Richmond Public Library is your public library. Although books are in our DNA, public libraries of today are so much more. In the spirit of holiday giving, we are presenting (see what we did there?) a series of blog posts highlighting all of the resources available to you — in the library, or at home — to become a Richmond Public Library power user. Applying for a job is no longer a matter of walking into a place of business, asking if they have any openings, and filling out a paper application. Today, applying for a job requires knowing how to use a computer, having internet access, finding reputable hiring listings, and being able to submit a digital version of a resume. And that’s if you know what you’re looking for! Richmond Public Library has something for all job seekers, including those who need help with more than just employment.

The Office of Community Wealth Building’s Barrier Navigators work out of our branches during the week. They assist job seekers with obtaining the skills they need to secure employment and enter promising careers. They assist with Career Exploration, Job Readiness, Career Counseling, Work-Based Learning, Adult Education, Vocational Training, Support Services, and Community Referrals. You can walk-in or call 804-646-6464 to make an appointment.

Brainfuse JobNow is an online resource where you can connect LIVE with a certified career coach, seven days a week between 2 pm and 11 pm. You can also get help with resume writing, applications, searches, and skill development needs.

Brainfuse VetNow allows you to connect LIVE with a military benefits navigator, seven days a week between 2 pm and 11 pm. You can get help with eligibility questions, connecting with veteran’s benefits and community resources, transitioning from a military to civilian career, and more.

All Richmond Public Library locations have public computers that provide two of the most important things for any job seeker: the ability to create a resume and submit online job applications. Nearly every job requires people to submit an online application, and our staff can assist you with learning how to do so. We are also able to help you find the highest quality, correct job listings based on what you are looking for.
