Welcome to NaNoWriMo! I promise, that’s not gibberish. It stands for National Novel Writing Month. The goal is to write a 50,000 word novel from November 1st to 11:59pm November 30th. My favorite quote from Benjamin Franklin seems especially appropriate this month. “If you would not be forgotten, as soon as you are dead and rotten, either write things worth reading, or do things worth writing.”
I will be participating in this challenge myself for the first time ever this year. My daughter told me about an idea she had read and it has sparked my imagination for a fun YA-fiction novel involving vampires, space, and all kinds of chaos. I will update this blog post on Fridays each week during the month with my success and numbers.
Week 1 (Nov. 8): 2475
Week 2 (Nov. 15): 2975
Week 3 (Nov. 22): 3565
End! (Nov. 30):
In the meantime, here’s a few books that were written during past year’s NaNoWriMo.
(2019 YAVA nominee!) The Disasters
Cinder, Scarlett, and Cress (All in the same NaNoWriMo no less!)
There are also some Come Write-In events being hosted at different branches for anyone that wants to get together with fellow writers for a few hours to push hard on their works. Snacks and creative writing games will be provided. Hope to see fellow writers there!
