An autumn chill is finally in the air, which means it’s time to crack the windows, put the kettle on, and break out your favorite records for some cozy listening…Or, you could come by the Main Library to enjoy some live music!
50 Years of Free Concerts
This fall, the Gellman Room Concert Series is celebrating 50 years of free public concerts. The series was established in 1973 by Myra Kight, the Senior Librarian of the Art and Music Department at RPL, “to give Richmond area instrumentalists and vocalists a place to perform and entertain countless music lovers.” These concerts are a great opportunity to experience world-class musicians performing in an intimate setting.
This series runs from the end of September 2023 through May 2024. Whether you’re into jazz, choral music, or classical, we have a little something for everyone. Take a look at our schedule and save the date of the concerts that most appeal to you…or do yourself a favor and come to all thirteen of them! Year-Round Fun on First Fridays
If you have a taste for visual art, keep an eye out for our First Friday events! The Main Library participates in the Art District’s year-round monthly arts walk, with live music on the steps of the building from Music One Stop Shop (MOSS) and a series of local artists’ work displayed in each of our five gallery spaces. Keep an eye on our social media channels and the quarterly What’s Happening for information about featured artists and special events throughout the year!
